DEMO DAY – Amdocs Socio-Make-A-Thon

The Amdocs Socio-Make-A-Thon reached its much-anticipated milestone with the thrilling Demo Day, an event that marked the exciting finale of months of hard work, dedication, and innovation. The journey leading up to this grand event was nothing short of extraordinary, as 100 brilliant students from esteemed institutions like DY Patil University, LPF, and MIT, Pune, participated in an enriching 6-month cohort program.

From the very beginning, the students embarked on an adventure of learning, creativity, and problem-solving. They were introduced to the principles of design thinking and the integration of technology into their projects, equipping them with the necessary tools to address real-world challenges aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Guided by experienced mentors and industry experts, the participants honed their entrepreneurial skills and gained valuable insights into the world of social innovation.

The Demo Day, held on the 11th of June 2023, was an electrifying event that showcased the transformative power of human-centric design thinking. The venue was buzzing with anticipation as the teams took the stage to present their innovative prototypes and solutions. Each team had been working tirelessly to develop proof-of-concept (POC) solutions for specific problem statements they had chosen, ranging from agricultural storage solutions to healthcare innovations.

The presentations were a masterclass in effective communication, as the participants eloquently showcased their ideas, supported by engaging visuals, compelling narratives, and interactive demonstrations. The audience, comprising industry experts, mentors, Amdocs employees, and stakeholders, was captivated by the passion, determination, and creativity displayed by the young innovators.

One of the standout features of the Demo Day was the diverse range of projects presented. The “Smart Onion Storage” team impressed with their cost-effective and foldable storage box-like structure using IoT-based technology and fertilisers/insecticide spraying to reduce onion wastage and enhance shelf life.

The “Agri Storage Solution” team demonstrated their prowess in developing an IoT system to improve agricultural storage systems, addressing the unique challenges faced by farmers dealing with tropical short-day onions.

The “Absilon” team’s innovative watch design with a cloth band and integrated temperature sensor for continuous monitoring in neonatal wards garnered well-deserved appreciation.

The “Shadow Doctor” team showcased their advanced application for smartwatches, utilising existing sensors and AI technology to predict and detect heart diseases, potentially saving lives in the future.

The “Hauler” team’s simple and efficient sacks carrier for workers handling heavy loads offered a practical solution to ease their burden.

The “Agri Rentals” team presented a user-friendly website enabling farmers to rent tools and equipment, empowering them with modern agricultural resources.

As each team received feedback and accolades from the panel of experts, the sense of accomplishment was palpable. The Demo Day not only provided a platform to present their ideas but also highlighted the students’ growth as effective communicators and problem solvers.
